First off can I say a big thank you to everyone for respecting my wishes not to post and ruin the series 7B finale and ruin the episode. So as a thanks below is a very big spoiler for the 50th anniversary.

As we know so far, the Zygons will be returning. However there is a bigger enemy returning for the 50th and they will be the main villain of the episode (we believe). I have been told this spoiler by a number of very reliable sources and can confidently confirm this spoiler to be true.  The returning enemy is:

OMEGA

Who is Omega?

In summary Omega is a Time lord who worked with Rassilon to create Time travel. He is the reason how the time lords got the Eye of Harmony (which we saw recently in Journey to the Centre to the TARDIS – probably to link to the 50th). Omega first appeared in the Doctor Who serial “The Three Doctors” which it has been rumoured to be something Moffatt has wanted to recreate. Also with the 50th having 3 Doctors (Smith, Tennant and Hurt revealing he is part Doctor) this also leads to the idea Moffatt is trying to recreate a similar episode.

Who is playing Omega?

No one has been confirmed to be playing this character but maybe they are hidden in plain sight? In the Arc of Infinity Omega used the Doctor’s biodata (in this case the 5th Doctor Peter Davison) to take physical form. Could Omega be up to his old tricks and be played by either Smith, Tennant or Hurt. It would be also be great if maybe some of the classic actors were utilised and Omega swaps between their different forms somehow.

As I can tell from the amount of visitors we are getting everyone is very excited for the finale. However the bigger the episode the harder it is to get spoilers. As I have said in Tweets I will not be ruining the episode by posting some of the descriptions floating around the web. However a pretty reliable source has shared some teasers with me for the episode (i cannot confirm these to be 100% accurate but I trust them to be)

For those of you being really patient and respectful of my wishes to not ruin the finale, as a thank you, on Saturday just before the finale airs I will reveal a BIG 50th anniversary spoiler.

Nightmare in Silver Review by Brett

Neil Gaiman was given a brief for this episode – to make the Cybermen scary again. And in my opinion he achieved it – unfortunately it was at the expense of the strong story that had earned the previous episode he had penned (‘The Doctor’s Wife’) such universal acclaim. So to the story – after Angie & Artie discovered that Clara was travelling through time and space last week, they blackmailed Clara to get themselves a journey in the TARDIS. The Doctor takes them to ‘Sedgewick’s World of Wonders’, an intergalactic theme park – and who can blame them, not a bad choice of destination for two young teenagers. Unfortunately when they get there, the planet has been abandoned, and seemingly the only inhabitants are Webley – a former host of the theme park – and a brigade of soldiers, sent to the planet as punishment. However it’s soon clear that the Cybermen are also roaming the planet, and after an attempt by them to use the Doctor’s mind to become a ‘super’ Cyberman, they are ultimately defeated by the planet being blown up.

Now as I said, the Cybermen are scary again. They have obviously been upgraded since our last sight of them, and whilst the initial sight didn’t indicate anything other than a physical redesign, I literally sat up straight when the Cyberman zoomed towards the screen. I knew beforehand that they could run in this episode, but I was expecting a quick jog at best, not moving faster than the eye could see. Running away was always a viable option when confronted with them in the past, but not any more. The slow-mo scene illustrated the scene beautifully, and was probably one of the most impressive visual effects I can remember seeing in Doctor Who. Their ability to disconnect body-parts also brought an added level of menace to, with walking hands able to attack even when hidden. And the half robotic Borg-like takeover of people’s minds looked great (if a little similar to the Gunslinger from Mercy).

I’ll keep going with the positives – Warwick Davis turned in a great guest performance as the humble Porridge (and later revealed as the Emperor), and it would be great to see him back in the future – one episode seems just too short for such a talented actor. Matt Smith also pulled off a great turn as part Cyber-Leader trapped inside his own mind, switching from putting everything on the line as himself, to the maniacal Cyber brain trying to use his mind to take over the Universe, taunting him all the while. The Cybermen’s allergy to gold was (belatedly) shown, the chess game was a nice nod to the past, as was the visuals of the Doctor’s previous incarnations and impersonations of Eccleston and Tennant. Clara also got to play an active part taking charge of the troops, rather than the role of bystander she has sometimes been relegated to.

And now to the negatives, which I believe can be explained by one thing, one that could be seen as responsible for many of the negatives in the most recent run – one 45 minute episode was not enough to do all of the elements justice. Whilst the story was not the most creative, it could have been saved by some great characterisation and emotional scenes that they just did not have enough time to fit in. Right from the start, I can’t imagine the Doctor would have been too happy to have the kids thrust on him, but this went unseen. Webley didn’t have much time to explain his motivations for being there, other than not being able to get a lift home, and nor did the punishment platoon. Tamzin Outhwaite’s Captain did begin to show some emotion in her desperate attempt to make up for her past mistake, but this earlier error in judgement was never explained due to her premature death. And then to end it all, the destruction of the planet

The other disappointment, not down to the acting but the script, was that of Angie, who came across as an ungrateful brat. I can understand her not wanting Clara trying to replace her Mother, but considering she’s took them to an alien planet, and the past scenes with them has never shown her doing anything but care for them, so this felt ill-judged without the requisite impetus.

So all in all, an episode that was perhaps ruined by the hype and expectation that preceded it. However that hype was nothing compared to the anticipation for next week’s series finale. My previous prediction of a showdown at Trenzalore looks to be correct, but as for the rest, despite a number of teasers, I still don’t know what is going to happen, and I can’t wait!

I was emailed with a very interesting article tonight in regards to John hurt. The article is about John Hurt giving his blessing for a small theatre initiative by Sheringham Little Theatre. In the article however John hurt is quoted and reveals possibly who or what his character is:

 Mr Hurt, who lives near Cromer, earlier told the EDP he had just finished shooting a Dr Who 3D special in which he plays “part of the Doctor” in a “kind of trinity” which includes David Tennant.

Does this then explain the reason for his clothing being similar to the 8th and 9th Doctor and being a combination of the two? Feel free to discuss your ideas below.
