The Doctor Who Crew were once again filming late last night (21 April) and the usual #DWSR crowd were there once again taking photos (see below).

They were filming Episode 5 (Pond Farewell) which involves the Weeping angels and Rory being sent back to the 1930′s/1940′s. All filming was based in this time period. Arthur, Karen and Alex (Rory, Amy and River) were spotted on set but no Matt (The Doctor) but instead there was a Doctor Stand in (meaning no front shots just behind etc).We Also have the return of the actor Rob David that we saw previously with Rory in filming last week.

These scenes were for the opening of the episode (Episode 5 Scene 1) and it involved extras in period clothing walking past a statue of a woman and a young boy in the rain. In another scene Rory is seen to be coming out of the building shouting “How did i get here” to River. River was dressed in gangster clothing (very much like the front of the book from previous filming)

There was also some indoor shooting that we are not aware of what happened, but are probably follow up shots from leaving the building.

Some people have been saying that the newspaper has the year 1938 on it, although I can’t find any pictures that show it so it might be from the set or just a made up rumour.

As far as I can tell the 1938 thing is based on the headline reading “130 MPH Winds.” New York was hit by a severe hurricane on 21st September 1938. Though I tend to think that the writers don’t necessarily tend to make a huge amount of effort to link the storylines to exact circumstances in the past.

For instance, I can’t find any evidence for a deepening mystery in Central Park’s ‘Hooverville’ shanty town during late October/early November 1930. ;)

      • The_Eternal_Dalek

It looks like there is a date on the newspaper, but the picture is not detailed enough to show it.

Time will tell… it always does.

Something else has emerged. Apparently the black Packard car’s numberplate is a 1938 plate, promoting the Worlds Fair the following year.

So, assuming that the plate is intentional and not another “Rory’s badge” then 1938 is the earliest the episode could be set. And with the US casting calls mentioning 1930′s haircuts, it seems probable that the episode could very well be set in 1938.

But as you say…. time will tell. :)
