Just like the TARDIS we have upgraded our console ready for the new season. Last year we tried this and people were not happy with the change but unfortunately this change has had to happen and the reasons and the benefits are explained below. Please do not flood the comments with “I don’t like the new design” or “It’s just like every other site” when I have explained the reasons why below.
Why the change?
As you may have noticed the site has not been updated with content for a while. There are 2 reasons for this. One is I have been very busy with work/personal life and the site has had to unfortunately be put aside. The second reason is due to server problems. Myself and a few others who have tried to post information and images to the site have had a number of problems that when we try to upload the site crashes, to the point where we have given up and not psoted anything.
For the past 2 weeks I have been working with the server company to try and find out what the issues are. One of the main reasons were that the server can not handle all of the traffic and content that everyone was accessing on the site. So basically the site you see now has been built from the ground up and post from April onwards have been transferred and previous content has been archived on the old site (here). All images that go on the site will now be hosted via Flickr and will be viewable on our Flickr page and also via a slide show on the posts. This will improve time and speed on the site.
So what is new?
Logo
I’ve updated the logo to go with a new site so that people can clearly see that this is a spoilers site and also the site address. It is very plain and simple but hopefully does the job
New Layout
Everyone comes to this site to get spoilers. That will never change and spoilers are still the main part of this site. Now however we also have other news adding to the site but these will only appear on the left hand-side of the site with just the title for people who are interested. Just like the old design the spoilers will be down the centre and have a brief description of what the spoilers inside contain. We also have a news flash scroller along the top for some of the more recent and note worthy news and spoilers.
Social and media buttons
In the top right corner we now have quick links to our Twitter and Facebook page. We also have a direct link to our Flickr account where you can find all of the images that we post all in one place. We also have a Vimeo account now to store all Doctor Who related videos (trailers, Sneak Peeks, etc) again so that the server does not slow down and the site has more up time than down
Search Bar and Category tage
We now have a search bar to make it easier for you to find any spoilers or news that you may be interested in. All posts now have tags relating to episodes and characters that are involved in the news or spoilers so when you click on them it will take you to all related posts. At the bottom of posts now you will find a related posts section which will show you any posts that you may also be interested in.
Mobile and Tablet friendly
The new version of the site is now much more mobile friendly. You still have the clear site design and the news scroller can be swiped with your finger for fast news updates. This means you can view the site in a more user friendly way than you could previously on the site. Hopefully this will make Doctor Who Spoilers more accessible on the move so you can get your spoiler updates wherever you are
