Exclusive Doctor Who 50th news

As part of the BBC’s blockbuster celebrations to mark the Doctor turning 50, fans will be able to see the Time Lord and his adventures like never before – in 3D!  To be broadcast using some of the BBC’s HD capacity, Steven Moffat, lead writer and executive producer, said:  “It’s about time. Technology has finally caught up with Doctor Who and your television is now bigger on the inside. A whole new dimension of adventure for the Doctor to explore.”

The bigger question is, how many people will actually be able to view it in 3D? Personally I’d rather see it on the big screen in 3D, possibly an excuse for IMAX?

Unless 3-D technology advances about 50 years’ worth between now and November – no thank you.

Well, I guess you’ll have to make do. Maybe you can watch it in 2D, which is going to an available option unless the BBC decides that only a small market share gets to watch their expensive celebratory episode?

But of course. However, films shot in 3-D tend to bring out some poorly thought-out shots designed to emphasize the 3-D. Having the shot where a Dalek deliberately tries to poke it’s gun into the viewers’ living rooms or the CGI Fourth Doctor hurling his scarf at your sofa will look naff.

Hm… I know the feeling, but I think – well, I hope – that the crew would be on the ball enough to do it classy-like, especially considering us poor sods without fancy tellyboxes. More Avatar and less Clash of the Titans.

Avatar killed that one dead, thanks.

If it’s REAL 3d, count me in! (‘Cause it’s bigger on the inside) ;-)
